What details might be of significance in canto VI?

The detail that might be of significance is the book that Francesca and Paolo were reading. When the story of how these two became lovers is recounted to Dante it seems that the reason it happened was because of the Arthurian legend that they were reading. They said as they read they began to feel as if the story spoke to a secret love these two had. What’s significant about this is that the author is trying to say that it was because of this romantic reading that they ended up committing this sin. Romantic readings seemed to be something that was not popular during this time because it might have been seen as lustful.
