Week 10

Desire

Desire is one of the driving themes in Macbeth and it is shown in a number of instances. The first instance of desire in Macbeth is when the 3 witches tell Macbeth about his fate of becoming king. Once Macbeth is told about this he proceeds to obsess over the prophecy which leads him to telling his wife who would do anything to make that prophecy come true. Desire is demonstrated as being a characteristic of a person that is detrimental to them and other around them. The desire of Macbeth and his wife led to the deaths of numerous characters as well as the death of the two perpetrators of the deed. If it wasn’t for their desire getting the best of them the Tragedy of Macbeth would not have occurred.
